One of the biggest challenges you face when beginning a new website is getting traffic to it. Your website can have the most content, the best presentation, the coolest graphics, and the perfect sales pitch. None of these things matter if no one can find your site.
While you can get traffic to your site in many ways, everyone knows that Google is the most popular way people search for information on the web. If you’re interested, you can manually submit your site to Google and wait for them to index your site. Unfortunately, you’re going to wait several weeks before they do. So what can you do to ensure people find you, fast? Luckily, a couple easy tricks can have you indexed by Google quickly.
Step 1: Write an article and submit it to Ezine Articles.
One of the quickest ways to get noticed by Google quickly is to write articles and submit them to article directories. The most popular and effective of these directories, according to Google, is at www.ezinearticles.com. When submitting an article to Ezine Articles, you will be allowed to provide a short description of your site and a link in the resource box that is displayed at the end of your article. Since Google’s robots regularly check Ezine Articles for new content, your article will be found and picked up by Google quickly. Google will also see the link in your resource box, pointing back to your new site, and add your new site to its searches.
Keep in mind that Ezine Articles will limit your account initially to ten article submissions, and these submissions will need to be approved before being placed on the website. Generally, this only takes a few days and is a lot quicker than waiting on Google to find you without doing this. After ten initial submissions, Ezine Articles will approve you to submit unlimited articles if your content is decent.
Step 2: Write another article, post it on your website, and link it to Digg.
Digg is another site that can help your new website be found quickly. Sign up for an account at www.digg.com and browse the articles. If you’ve never heard of digg, it’s a place people can post interesting things found on the web and others can “digg” submissions they like, and the most popular items show up on top.
Browse for a few minutes and digg a few articles. Then, post a link back to the article you just placed on your website. Google will find your article on Digg and your site will quickly be placed in its search results.
Step 3: Post on popular forums with a link to your site in your signature.
The easiest way to find places to post is to search Google for forums which cover the topic your website is about. If your website is about internet marketing, for example, type “internet marketing forums” (without the quotes) into Google. The forum in the top search position is the Warrior forum, which is a very popular website for internet marketers.
Some forums require a certain number of posts before you’re allowed to include a signature with a link to your website. This is to avoid spam and keep the quality of the posts high. To use this method of getting Google to see your website, make sure you’re posting helpful information in response to others and not simply spamming the message boards.
To check if Google has indexed your site, simply type “site:yoursite.com” (without quotes) into Google. By following these 3 easy steps, your website should be indexed by Google fast.
